With gratitude to Almighty Allah and profound respect for the traditions of our historic Emirate, I warmly congratulate His Royal Highness, Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, Ph.D, Chiroman Gumel, on his accession to the revered throne of his forefathers as the 17th Emir of Gumel.

His Royal Highness ascends the throne at a solemn and defining moment in our history, following the passing of his beloved father, our revered Emir, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani II, CON, whose distinguished reign was marked by wisdom, humility, peace, justice and devoted service to humanity. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, illuminate his grave and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.

The appointment of Mohammed represents both the preservation of an honoured royal heritage and the beginning of a promising new chapter for the Gumel Emirate.

As the eldest son of the late Emir, HRH was raised within the values, discipline and responsibilities of the traditional institution. He witnessed closely the demands of leadership, the importance of consultation and the sacred responsibility of protecting the dignity, unity and wellbeing of the people.

Beyond his royal upbringing, HRH has distinguished himself through scholarship, professional excellence and public service. His academic journey – from Mathematics at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to advanced studies in Computing, Operations Research, and Computer and Communication Systems Engineering in the United Kingdom and Malaysia – reflects an exceptional commitment to knowledge and intellectual development.

His academic and professional service across Nigeria, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given him valuable international exposure. His years of teaching, research and university leadership, including service as Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Hafr Al-Batin, strengthened his experience in institutional development, curriculum advancement, quality assurance and internationally recognised academic standards.

His present contribution as Director of Cybersecurity at the National Information Technology Development Agency further demonstrates his capacity to respond to the opportunities and challenges of our rapidly changing world. His work in cybersecurity, digital trust, technological innovation and national cyber resilience places him among a new generation of traditional leaders who can connect respected cultural institutions with education, technology and sustainable development.

The Gumel Emirate is, therefore, blessed with an Emir who combines royal heritage with scholarship, tradition with innovation, and local understanding with international experience.

His accession offers a renewed opportunity to strengthen unity across the Emirate, preserve our history and culture, promote peaceful coexistence and mobilise our people around education, agriculture, commerce, healthcare, youth development, women’s empowerment, digital skills and community security.

Our young people should see in His Royal Highness a powerful example that devotion to knowledge, discipline and service can prepare an individual for the highest responsibilities. His intellectual achievements should inspire a new generation of scholars, professionals, innovators and responsible community leaders throughout the Emirate.

As he assumes this sacred responsibility, our duty is to support him with loyalty, sincere counsel, prayers and constructive cooperation. The throne belongs to the entire Emirate, and its strength depends upon the unity of the Royal Family, traditional titleholders, district and village heads, religious leaders, elders, women, youth and every community under its authority.

I pray that his reign will be distinguished by peace, justice, consultation, compassion, progress and an enduring commitment to the welfare of the people.

May Almighty Allah grant him wisdom in judgment, patience in difficulty, courage in leadership and good health throughout his reign. May Allah guide him to preserve the noble legacy of his predecessors while leading the Gumel Emirate confidently into a future of knowledge, unity, security and shared prosperity.

Long live His Royal Highness Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, Ph.D.

Long live the Gumel Emirate.

Long live Jigawa State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Gumel is a retired DIG, FSPSP, FIPMA, psc.
