Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged Nigerians to adopt healthier lifestyles and undergo regular medical check-ups to reduce the risk of heart-related diseases.
Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, made the call on Tuesday in a message commemorating the 2026 World Heart Day, themed “Don’t Miss a Beat.”
World Heart Day, observed annually on September 29, seeks to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases and promote preventive measures that support heart health.
Soludo said protecting the heart requires deliberate and consistent lifestyle choices, stressing that individuals have an important role to play in safeguarding their health.
“Your heart works for you every single day. Make the choice to work for it too,” she said.
According to her, maintaining a healthy heart begins with simple but consistent habits, including eating nutritious meals, engaging in regular physical activity, managing stress and getting adequate rest.
She also encouraged Nigerians to undergo routine medical examinations, noting that regular health checks could help identify risk factors early and prevent heart-related illnesses.
“Also, carry out medical check-ups to prevent heart-related diseases,” Soludo advised.
She reiterated the need for Nigerians to make healthy living part of their daily routine rather than waiting until health problems develop.
