Army Kills 16 Terrorists in Adamawa, Rescues 10 Abducted Prospective Corps Members

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed 16 terrorists, recovered weapons and repelled coordinated attacks on military positions in Adamawa State.

An operational report said the terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on troops of the 226 Battalion (Motorised) at Garkida in Gombi Local Government Area and the 232 Battalion at Garaha in Hong Local Government Area at about 1 a.m. on Thursday.

The troops reportedly repelled the attacks, forcing the assailants to flee towards Garkida on motorcycles.

According to the report, the Army’s Spartan element pursued the fleeing terrorists and conducted strikes that killed 16 of them.

Troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action guns, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and cartridges. Follow-up operations were ongoing to secure the affected areas.

Troops Rescue Prospective Corps Members in Imo

In a separate operation, troops of Operation UDO KA rescued 10 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted by suspected kidnappers in Imo State.

The report said troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade responded to the incident at Umonuwa village along the Onitsha-Owerri Road at about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The victims were reportedly travelling in two commercial buses when they were abducted.

Troops, working with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services, were pursuing the kidnappers in efforts to rescue the remaining victims.

Troops Repel Attack in Taraba

Meanwhile, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE repelled a suspected terrorist attack on Gwamagira settlement in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The attackers, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles, retreated after engaging the troops and abandoned rustled cattle, which were recovered and returned to their owners.

However, one civilian was killed and three others abducted during the attack. Security forces were continuing efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.

Suspected ISWAP Member Arrested in Yobe

In Yobe State, troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, arrested a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) member at Babbangida in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

The suspect, arrested on September 29, reportedly claimed to be an Islamic cleric operating in the Sahara region of Niger Republic.

Preliminary investigation indicated that he travelled by truck from the Zarmadu-Sahara area of Niger Republic into Nigeria before proceeding towards Borno State.

Troops recovered a mobile phone, prayer mat, blanket, jacket, slate, detergent and N396,200 from the suspect.

The report added that troops of Sector 4, working with Rangers and Hybrid Forces, arrested four other suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol in parts of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

In Sokoto State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA also engaged terrorists along the Kwanar Isa-Shinkafi Road in Isa Local Government Area, forcing them to withdraw before troops conducted patrols to secure the area.
