Police warn political thugs, sponsors in Yobe

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kamfani Jibrin, has issued a stern warning to political thugs and their sponsors against engaging in acts capable of disrupting public peace as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

The warning followed a State Security Council meeting chaired by Yobe State Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, during which officials reviewed the state’s security climate and approved upgraded strategies to curb criminal activities.

CP Jibrin noted that security statistics reflect a relatively low crime rate this year, crediting joint efforts for maintaining law and order across the state.

However, the council raised concerns over emerging political thuggery and hooliganism linked to early campaign activities.

The Commissioner confirmed that security agencies have already made arrests following a recent disturbance in Machina town, where suspected touts attempted to disrupt the movement of an APC candidate and former Secretary to the Yobe State Government during a visit to local Emirate Councils.

Police will target not only perpetrators on the ground but also the high-profile individuals financing or instigating political violence.

Equally, security forces will safeguard all lawful political activities, provided parties adhere to official protocols and regulatory channels.

CP Jibrin urged politicians and their supporters to center their campaigns on policy issues rather than resorting to weapon possession, property destruction, or physical attacks.

“Anyone who attempts to disrupt political activities will face the full weight of the law because nobody is above the law.

“Those who are planning or thinking that violence is the only way to achieve their political objectives should be assured that we are ready,” CP  Jibrin said .

Addressing the state’s youth, the Commissioner cautioned against being manipulated into criminal acts by politicians who often evade direct liability, warning that those caught on the field will face full legal prosecution.
